As a sleep consultant, I help families create healthy sleep habits for babies and children by assessing sleep challenges, developing personalized sleep plans, and providing education on sleep. I offer guidance on routines, sleep environments, and age-appropriate strategies while supporting parents through the process. My goal is to improve sleep quality for both the child and the family.

Sleep training is the process of helping a baby or child learn to fall asleep independently and sleep for longer stretches. It involves establishing a consistent bedtime routine, creating a sleep-friendly environment, and using age-appropriate methods to encourage self-soothing. 

The ideal age to start sleep training is typically between 4 to 6 months when babies begin to develop a more regular sleep cycle and can learn self-soothing skills. Before 4 months, newborns still have irregular sleep patterns and need frequent feedings. However, healthy sleep habits can be encouraged from birth through routines and sleep environment adjustments. Every baby is different, so the right timing depends on their development and family preferences.

Sleep training typically takes between a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the method used, the baby’s temperament, and consistency in implementing the plan. Some babies adjust within 3 to 5 nights, while others may take 1 to 2 weeks to fully adapt. Staying consistent is key to seeing lasting results.

I can’t promise a completely tear-free process—no one can. However, there are gentle sleep training methods where parents play an active role in offering reassurance, which can help reduce crying. Crying is a baby’s way of communicating, whether they’re hungry, tired, or adjusting to something new. Learning to sleep independently is a big change, so some crying is natural. The methods I use allow you to comfort and support your baby throughout the process, ensuring they feel secure while developing healthy sleep habits. The key is to offer reassurance while allowing your baby to develop self-soothing skills.
